Indian Cinema aka Bollywood
WoW! 800 titles per year. It is difficult to think of a life without TV and cinema, which are the only source of entertainment for most Indians. Since long India’s cinematic triumphs have been unknown or largely understated by west. Thanks to Internet & TV, Indian movies are going global and no more considered as song & dance drama.
Cinema brought a great change in India. Since early days cinema was a mouthpiece that reflected the changes or development in society be it Independence, industrialization, roti kapda aur makan, urbanization, and Indian cinema reflected them all.
Indian cinema history goes back to 1886 when Lumiere brothers unveiled six short films (soundless) at Bombay's Watson Hotel. The first Indian Feature came much later in 1913. Dadasaheb phalke also known as father of Indian cinema made Raja Harischandra. The number of movies made in those days was quiet low but it grew to 227 movies by 1931. Alam Ara was the first talkie feature film made by Ardershir and produced by Imperial cinema in 1931.
